The Villas at Vintage Oaks Residents Combine Local History and Lunch
St. Joseph, Missouri is known for many, many different things: Pony Express, Cherry Mash candy bars, home of Walter Cronkite, and so on. We also have a wonderful historical homes area towards the downtown area. This week, we had lunch at one of the local bed and breakfasts that has been completely restored to almost original state. The restoration of Whiskey Mansion was a huge feat in itself, due to the house almost being burnt to the ground a very long time ago. Local owner, Olin Cox, has painstakingly put a lot of time and effort into restoring the mansion to as close to what it looked like, as possible, and has done it very well. Whiskey Mansion was built by Ferdinand Westheimer, a millionaire liquor distributor, in 1885 which now serves as a bed and breakfast which also serves breakfast and lunch. Our group really enjoyed the beauty of the mansion and great conversations with each other and have decided that we will visit the establishment, again, in the near future. If you get a chance, stay at the bed and breakfast for a getaway weekend with a loved one or just go for a simple lunch. Either way, it is very enjoyable. Have a great week!
